News 12 Then: People who set wildfires in 1986

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The 2016 fall fire season will be one for the record books.

But wildfires have always been a problem for the state in the fall.

We just have had a lull over the last decade.

This year’s historic drought brought them back with a vengeance.

30 years ago, we were in the middle of another fire cycle in the late 1980’s.

In 1986, we saw the fourth highest number of fires in Tennessee since they began keeping records in 1960.

And they figure that about half of them were started by arsonist.
