News 12 Then: Remembering the first Riverbend in 1982

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) Before Riverbend, we didn’t have many venues for music concerts.

Basically, we had Memorial Auditorium and the Tivoli Theater.

McKenzie Arena wouldn’t open up until the fall of 1982.

So when Riverbend came along earlier in the year, they weren’t sure if people were open to shows in other areas.

Their solution was a series of three pre-Rivebend shows with popular acts of the day.

This is the story we ran in June of 1982 of the show by The Commodores at Engel stadium.
