Nightfall Preview: Kishi Bashi
Chattanooga (WDEF) – This week, Nightfall presents the exotic string sounds of Kishi Bashi.
That is the stage name for classical violinist Kaoru Ishibash.
His classical training and performance took a severe turn when he began touring with Regina Spektor and then indie rock band of Montreal.
Now he’s on his own, melding pop, rock and instrumental forms into his own sound.
Kishi Bashi was dependent on looping techniques on the stage early on, but he is beginning to add band members to his performances these days.
Let’s listen to a video from his recent album.
And then a live performance from the final run of David Letterman last winter.
Kishi Bashi plays the Nightfall stage at 8:00 PM Friday.
Chattanooga has it’s own set of string wizards.
And one of them will open the show.
Butch Ross specializes in Dulcimer music.
Butch Ross performs at 7 PM.
