No Appointments Needed: North Ga Health Departments offering walk in Covid-19 vaccine

WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga (WDEF) – Getting your Covid-19 shot will now be even easier.

At several North Georgia health department sites, you can walk up and receive your Covid-19 vaccination without an appointment-but that’s only for a limited time.

These no-appointment walk-up clinics will be conducted by public health departments at their current COVID-19 vaccine clinic sites.

This service is being offered at  NO Cost to clients and will include the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines as available.

Health Officials believe this will help with vaccine hesitancy in the area.

“Things have declined just a little bit as more people have become vaccinated. We wanted to give the opportunity for those who maybe having an appointment is an inconvenience or a barrier for them to have a way to come in and get their vaccination without having to call ahead or plan. We wanted to offer that up,” says Ashley Deverell, Immunization Coordinator for North Georgia Health District.

With more vaccines becoming available every day , the health departments are now able to expand their vaccine distributors.

“We’re also able to outreach to our local businesses and work with our schools. It’s been a good opportunity for us to be able to meet the demands of the community,” says Deverell.

With no barriers between residents and vaccines, the health department is considering making walk in vaccines a more permanent solution for residents.

“We wanted to see how things went and make sure we wouldn’t be overwhelmed and have to go back to appointments but I think so far crowds have been manageable so we will be able to continue this past this week,” says Deverell.

Teens ages 16 to 18 are only permitted to receive the Pfizer vaccine and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Walk up Clinics are available in Fannin, Gilmer, Murray, Pickens and Whitfield counties, until April 22nd  from 9 AM to 3 PM.
