No plans to close Walnut Street Bridge
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — There was some confusion over the weekend regarding the Walnut Street bridge.
It was sparked by a post on Twitter when CARTA suggested the bridge would soon be closing for major repairs.
The tweet said the timeline was not finalized, but the closure could last up to 18 months.
It linked a survey that asks a series of questions about what kind of effects a closure would have on those who use the bridge.
Ellis Smith, a spokesperson for the city of Chattanooga, told News 12 this situation was just a misunderstanding.
He says it started with a UTC student’s survey and somehow snowballed from there.
He goes on to say that there was a kernel of truth, that the Walnut Street bridge does need repairs.
However, the city has no specific plans on closing the bridge any time soon.
