North Georgia shows appreciation for their law enforcement officers
TRENTON, Georgia (WDEF) With the recent acts of violence against police officers around the country, community members in Dade County held a service to honor area officers.
Here are some of the sights and sounds from Thursday night.
“God bless America” (sung)
Sheriff Steve Wilson from Walker County says “Over the last week or 2, I have had people come into the office and offer doughnuts and cards and cakes they called me on the phone and said what can I do for you. I have heard other sheriffs in other cities say the same thing. It means a lot to us this event means a lot to this county. It means a lot to me and I’m across the ridge.”
Sheriff Ray Cross of Dade County says “A very uplifting them for the county and the residents here to come out and support us and we do appreciate it.” Well we have got letters of appreciation from the citizens. We have had people come up and shake our hands and tell us how much they appreciate what we are doing and like I said they even bought our lunches, our food at times and we do appreciate it. It makes us feel like they have got our back and that is what we want from them these men and women put there lives on the line everyday to protect them and it feels good when they give us that support back in return.
Sheriff Wilson: “What is a police man …… while everyone else is running away from the problem our law enforcement officers, men, women of many colors, red, white and in some cases blue black.. all different colors nationalities are running to that problem.”
Sheriff Cross: “Self preservation screams at them to run away but they do not they go in anyway they stay the course they see it through. That is why I love them and that is why I am proud to call them my brothers and sisters.”
