Northside Neighborhood House gets grant to modernize community assistance
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – A 94 year old Chattanooga nonprofit just received a thirteen thousand dollar Lowe’s grant for a new kitchen.
Northside Neighborhood House, which was established in 1924, helps local residents with a hand up through education and assistance.
They needed the kitchen update, because they offer cooking classes monthly, to help families expand their menus and learn about nutrition. A dietetics professor from UTC leads that class.
Chief Development Officer Brianne Lalor told us “she leads them though a demonstration of cooking, a vegetable soup, if you will, and so the participants are able to cut the vegetables learn how, learn about new vegetables, maybe they’ve never cut an avocado, what are the benefits of healthy fats, etc.”
Participants get a bag of groceries after the class so that they can re-create the meal at home.
Call Northside Neighborhood House at (423) 267-2217 if you want to sign up.
