Notre Dame Football Team Goes ‘Old School’ With Return to Former Location
Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Notre Dame football team went old school on Thursday. Literally.
They returned to Notre Dame’s old school.
From 1926 to 1965, Notre Dame used to be located on 8th street in downtown Chattanooga.
It’s the current All Saints Academy building.
The Irish toured the old gym where they warmed up for a long walk.
Back in the day, when the Irish practice field was too muddy, the team would walk 1.5 miles to Engel Stadium, where they practiced in the parking lot.
The current Notre Dame team re-enacted the process on Thursday.
They planned to work out for about 20-minutes on the pavement before returning to their regular field.
Head coach Charles Fant wanted his guys to re-live Notre Dame history.
Said Fant,"They were looking at the lockers. The very first thing they looked at. They said this is kind of like part of a horror story. I started saying that we might actually have to spend the night here or something. They got really nervous about that because they know I would do something like that. The neatest thing happened on the trip is here is they started talking to each other a whole lot more. It took us 30-minutes to get here 1.5 miles. But I really think it really meant something to them. Something they will always remember."
