Meet an Oceanographer at Navy Week at Riverbend
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Scientists with the Navy were down at the IMAX on Monday.
They’ve set up equipment and displays promoting Navy Week, which is part of the Riverbend festival this year.
Navy week is opportunity for residents to learn about the Navy and their service to our country.
The equipment that they use is very important in helping the environment and data collection for the Navy.
Today we learned what Oceanographers do.
Mike Kings is an Aerographer’s Mate 1st Class in the Navy.
“Wow! We can squeeze in ships 10,000, 20,000 more tons than we thought before. It affects commerce, it affects all these different things. So not just from a defense or strategic level, but from aid, relief, commerce. It’s really huge how much oceanography really plays into all that.”
We will continue to celebrate the Navy throughout the rest of the week.
