ODDtober begins with underwater pumpkin carving

Tennessee Aquarium divers carve pumpkins for fish

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Fish love pumpkin carving!

At least that’s what the Tennessee Aquarium proves every October when they send SCUBA divers into their tanks to carve a pumpkin underwater.

Volunteer SCUBA divers Dr. Lisa Shier and Marie Dement did their carving in front of Lake Sturgeon, Paddlefish, and turtles, and Aquarium visitors.

It’s not as easy as it may look.

The divers had to add dive weights to the pumpkins and tie down their lids with zip ties.

Monday’s underwater carving was the kickoff to ODDtober festivities at the Aquarium.

The month long event ends with Aquascarium on Friday, October 28.

Participants will get to explore the Aquarium after hours.
