Off duty Chattanooga firemen help truck driver in interstate crash

SCOTT COUNTY, Ia. (WDEF) —  Two Chattanooga firemen helped save a life after a truck driver was involved in a fiery on a crash on the interstate.

Captain Justin McCommon and Captain Jason Moses were returning from Indianapolis on a business trip when they became stuck in traffic.

While in traffic, they heard a loud crash behind them and immediately took action.

They found a semi truck on fire with the driver hanging out the drivers side window unable to free himself, waving for assistance.

Captain McCommon is seen on video climbing on a pickup truck to assist retired Chattanooga Police officer Brian Bloomberg with the driver.

Captain Moses can be seen using fire extinguishers to keep the fire contained while they rescued the driver.

Once the driver was out of the vehicle, he was taken to a hospital.

“I had no doubt that you would do exactly what needed to be done in that instance, even when you were both off-duty.  What you did was outstanding and I’m proud of you for your willingness to help others no matter where you are or what you’re doing.  It speaks volumes about your character,” said Phil Hyman, Chattanooga Fire Chief.
