Off-duty officer fatally shoots man in suburban Atlanta

FOREST PARK, Ga. (AP) – Police say an off-duty officer has fatally shot a man in suburban Atlanta.

Clayton County Police spokeswoman Sgt. Ashanti Marbury told news outlets the officer saw someone shooting at another person near the Hondumex restaurant around 12:45 p.m. Sunday. The officer was working an approved security job for the Living Faith Tabernacle across the street.

Capt. Gazzara Hill says the initial shooting occurred after a man made an inappropriate comment toward a woman who was with two other men inside the restaurant. The argument ensued outside as the suspect followed the group before firing shots.

Marbury says the officer went to investigate and confront the suspect, who fired at shot and missed. The officer then shot the suspect.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, died while heading to Grady Memorial Hospital.
