Officer involved shooting in Marion County overnight

TBI says officers saw a gun and heard a shot before firing

SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tennessee (WDEF) – The TBI will investigate an officer involved shooting overnight in Marion County.

It started when a South Pittsburg police officer tried to stop a vehicle before midnight.

They say the driver refused to stop and continued towards Jasper.

The TBI preliminary report says the fleeing vehicle became stuck on some railroad tracks on Industrial Boulevard.

The report says that when officers approached the vehicle, they heard a shot fired and spotted the driver with a gun.

A deputy fired his weapon.

The driver was killed.

They are not releasing the name of the man at this point.
