Officers on both sides of the border will be watching you this weekend

TN/GA State Line (WDEF) – It was “Hands across the Border” this afternoon at the Georgia welcome center on I-75 south.

BOTH state and local LAW ENFORCEMENT agencies In Tennessee and Georgia ARE getting together this Memorial Day weekend.

They’re reminding drivers be out looking for those drinking and driving…not wearing seat belts, or creating a hazard.

Catoosa County Sheriff Gary Sisk is also reminding drivers that something new is coming in a few days.

“We’ve got some new laws going into effect in Georgia on July 1…about the hands free use of cellphones, so people need to keep that in mind ..us being right here close to the state line that’s going to be a big educational thing..it’s not necessarily Tennessee’s law..but Georgia’s law that you can’t have a cell phone in your hand while your operating a motor vehicle.”

The officers tell us there will be occasional road blocks in both states tonight.
