Officials explain why they chase suspect in 2 states this weekend
TRENTON, Georgia (WDEF) A South Pittsburg man is in jail today after a weekend chase that covered two states and four police agencies.
33 year old Donald Southerland was captured after a chase Saturday that ran from Trenton Georgia, up I 59, over to I-24 and ended at the Kimball exit in Marion County.
Dade County Sheriff Ray Cross says it started with a “shots fired” call in the Piney Community just outside Trenton.
The female victim told officers he had assaulted her and fired shots at her bedroom and into her car.
A Trenton officer spotted the suspect vehicle and began the chase.
Trenton city, Dade County, Marion County and Tennessee State Troopers all took part.
It ended when officers finally got him stopped at the Kimball exit.
They took him into custody without further incident, even though officers said he had pointed a firearm at them during the chase.
They recovered a .357 revolver from the vehicle.
Southerland is now in the Marion County jail but faces charges in both states.
