One dead in Saturday shooting on Glass Street

Chattanooga police are investigating a shooting from over the weekend that left a 20-year-old man dead.

It happened at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of Glass Street.

Authorities said they arrived and found 20-year-old Derrick Ruffin suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was taken to the hospital, but later died due to his injuries.

Investigators learned that the shooter, who remained at the scene, was the victim of a robbery attempt.

Officials said evidence indicated he acted in self-defense.

The shooter is not currently facing charges, but the investigation is still open.
