Ooltewah man facing vehicular assault charge connected to ATV crash
CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF) – A fun time riding an ATV leads to two people going to the hospital and a third person going to jail.
According to a complaint affidavit obtained by News 12, late Friday night, Hamilton County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to the 3900 block of Green Shanty Road in reference to a four wheeler accident.
When officers arrived on scene, they found Stanley Darr sitting in the grass while holding a little girl who was heavily bleeding from the left leg.
A witness who arrived on scene just before the deputies told them she knew the people who were involved in the crash. She also reportedly said that when she arrived, the ATV was upside down and one of the riders was trapped underneath.
According to one of the three crash victims, they all rode the ATV to a local convenience store to pick up candy and drinks when a vehicle ran them off the road at a curved intersection. The victim told deputies they ran into a ditch and the ATV flipped over.
EMS crews took the child to TC Thompson Children’s Hospital for treatment of a leg injury that according to police appeared to have extensive damage.
The other victim was also transported to a local hospital for possible traumatic injury.
When deputies questioned Darr, he reportedly told them a car ran them off the road and into a ditch.
According to the complaint affidavit, Darr appeared intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test before telling deputies he had consumed four drinks.
Deputies asked one of the witnesses if Darr had been drinking prior to driving the ATV and the witness said Darr had four drinks.
Darr was arrested and charged with:
- Vehicular assault
- Reckless endangerment
- Driving an ATV on a highway
- Failing to maintain a lane
Darr’s bond was set at $30,000
