Ooltewah High School student arrested for making threats on social media
OOLTEWAH, Tenn. (WDEF) — An Ooltewah High School student is arrested for making threats on social media.
On Thursday, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office patrol personnel were called to a home in reference to a perceived, generalized threat towards students at Ooltewah High School after concerns about an anonymous Instagram account was discovered circulating among OHS students.
Investigators say a teenage boy at OHS was identified as being responsible for the posting. After an investigation, detectives determined the student had nothing in his possession to carry out the threat. He was arrested and transported to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center where he was charged with Making False Reports.
Detectives with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office say they make an effort to investigate any threat, real or hoaxed, especially those directed towards the safety and welfare of our children.
According to them, each threat is taken as serious and criminal charges are typically considered when these type of incidents occur due to the potential of public alarm and disruption to normal school activities.
