Watch out for Operation Southern Shield next week
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Wherever you drive in the southeast, highway patrol organizations will be watching to see if you are obeying the speed limit next week.
It’s part of Operation Southern Shield involving Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and Florida.
The campaign is backed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which is funding the project.
The message is that speeding has led to an increase in traffic deaths throughout the area.
According to preliminary numbers from the Georgia Department of Transportation, the number of traffic deaths reported in the state during last year’s Southern Shield was 35 percent lower than the other three weeks of July.
