Pachyderm Legal Aid helps those in Need
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Not everybody can afford to hire a lawyer…even if they are facing a life-changing crisis.
That’s the mission of Legal Aid of East Tennessee—to fulfill a much- needed service.
The executive Director of Legal Aid of East Tennessee is Sheri Fox.
She heads a staff of 26 lawyers and 14 paralegals who try to help those who can’t help themselves.
Fox told the Pachyderm club today that the organization helps people keep a car, avoid wrongful eviction, build a stable income or during other times where a lawyer is needed.
“We provide services to people who are at 125% of the federal poverty level, which for a family of 4 is just over 30-thousand dollars a year. Victims of domestic violence, we help anyone 60 or over, if you need a power of attorney for health care, odds are you do. But you might not be able on a fixed income to afford one,” stated Sheri Fox who is a legal aid of East Tennessee.
Sheri Fox says pro bono volunteers in every community help fill the need for those who need legal assistance, but otherwise could be turned away.
