Partnership for Families, Children and Adults offers help for survivors of domestic violence

Carmen Hutson joins News 12’s Amelia Greer to discuss the different services Partnership for Families, Children and Adults offers for survivors of domestic violence.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – In light of the Jason Chen Murder Trial, Partnership for Families, Children and Adults reminds everyone of the services they offer for those in crisis.

Carmen Hutson is the director of Victim Support Services at Partnership which offers a wide range of services for those who are in an abusive relationship. Partnership has a domestic violence shelter for those who are able to leave the abusive relationship. The organization also provide services for those who stay put in their home.

Additionally, Partnership provides court advocacy for survivors. Their rape crisis center provides forensic medical exams and counseling.

For survivors who are unsure how to get help or feel isolated, they can call the crisis hotline at 423-755-2700 or text 423-356-3620 and they will be connected with a caring person who is trained to help in these situations. Hutson says, “Individuals have to feel safe in order for them to leave a domestic violence situation so it’s sometimes several conversations over a period of time before they actually decide to leave.”

Partnership helps survivors form a safety plan, as the most dangerous time of a domestic violence relationship is when the survivor finally leaves. Survivors have a 75-80% chance of being killed in the process. Partnership is able to provide food, clothing, and shelter to survivors of domestic violence as they escape and navigate their lives during a difficult time.

For help, visit the Partnership for Families, Children, and Adults, visit their website or call 423-755-2700 or text 423-356-3620 for their crisis hotline.
