Pedestrian in Wheel Chair Hit by a Vehicle Dies

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF)-

Chattanooga Police Department says a woman in a wheelchair died last night from a collision involving a vehicle.

Officials identify the pedestrian as 55-year-old Roschell W. Ware.

It happened on 2400 Gunbarrel Road , while the pedestrian was traveling south bound in the road (south bound lane) in a motorized wheel chair.

A witness to the collision tells Chattanooga Police the vehicle was traveling south on Gunbarrel Road and nearly struck the pedestrian.

Shortly after the witness passed the pedestrian, a second vehicle came over the hill and came in contact with the pedestrian.

The driver of the second vehicle advised officers that they did not see the pedestrian traveling in the lane until the last moment.

Ware was transported to the hospital for what was considered non-life threatening injuries at the time but later passed away due to unknown causes.

Officials inform WDEF that an examination has been ordered and intoxication was believed to have contributed to this collision.
