Pfizer’s covid-19 vaccine approval for 12 and over helps push towards herd immunity
HIXSON, Tennessee- The US Food and Drug Administration expanded the emergency use authorization for Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine to include people ages 12 to 15.
This is the first Covid-19 vaccine in the United States authorized for use in younger teens and adolescents.
The F-D-a says the trials with over two thousand kids showed similar results in the 12 to 15 range as the results from 16 to 25 years old.
Pharmacist Jacob Standefer with Access Family Pharmacy said this is another step forward as the country tries to reach herd immunity.
“There are a lot of people out there who still haven’t been vaccinated and a majority of those are obviously people who are unable to get it right now. So I think as we continue to vaccinate these younger age groups that is going to help with immunity,” said Standefer.
Moderna and Johnson and Johnson are currently approved for 18 and older.
