Phil Massey out as Baylor’s football coach
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Press Release) – Baylor School officials announced today that Phil Massey will be leaving his position as head football coach.
Just got off the phone with Phil Massey. He said the school elected not to renew his contract. His only regret is not bringing a gold ball trophy to Baylor. Said it’s a tough day after “pouring your heart and soul into these kids” for 16 years. pic.twitter.com/AY6cbQDYjl

The announcement comes a month after Massey completed his 16th season. He was hired as Baylor’s head football coach in 2006 and his overall win-loss record is 98-61.
“We are taking the program in different direction,” said Baylor Athletic Director Mark Price. “Coach Massey has been a positive influence on countless players during his tenure. I am thankful for the leadership that he has provided our program for the past 16 seasons, and I wish him and his family the very best. Baylor will now begin the search for his replacement, which will conclude in a timely manner to ensure a successful transition for our program.”
Prior to Baylor, Massey was the assistant coach at Memphis University School for five years, and served as the head football coach from 1993-2001 at Haywood High School in Brownsville, Tenn.
