Photos of the Aurora Borealis from University of the South

SEWANNE, Tennessee (WDEF) – This week’s amazing Aurora Borealis show made it to the Tennessee Valley last night.

Anna Dula at The University of the South sent us these photo from the campus at Sewanee.

The northern lights were actually seen as far south as Florida this week following a strong geomagnetic storm.

It all just depends on conditions of the night skies.

You see them just after sunset or just before sunrise.

Dark, cloudless skies without light pollution are best for seeing them.

We’ve had a very busy few months of aurora activity in North America.

Experts say the sun has been particularly active of late because it’s at the peak of an 11 year cycle for solar storms.
