PIE Innovation Center held the official ‘Grand Opening’ Nov. 1st
Bradley County, TN (WDEF) – The PIE Innovation Center in Bradley County is now officially open. The facility is a planned regional educational facility that will prepare students for post-secondary careers and workforce opportunities. Officials say this center is the first of its kind in Tennessee.
Governor Bill Lee gave the keynote speech during Tuesday’s ceremony. As a supporter of the project Governor Lee allotted for $1M in the 2019 – 2020 Tennessee State budget be directed at the PIE Center.
Governor Bill Lee said the opening of the center is a step in closing the skills gap.
“Gifted kids, the ones with the brains and the hands that connect really well, we should create a pathway of success for them, enhance their pathway. This allows them to create a future, a future that’s very bright and is filled with skills and abilities that will provide them the jobs of the future,” said Governor Lee.
U.S. Congressman Chuck Fleischmann said the center is win for students in the community and poses as a model for the rest of the state.
“It’s a win for our students, because we’re taking students with a special skill set and giving them an opportunity. Guess what? Those gifts from God are every bit as cherished and every bit as needed as the skills that I got,” said Congressman Fleischmann. “I want to make sure that every student in Bradley County, in Tennessee, and across America can develop that potential because, guess what we need it. Our great state is attracting businesses from all over the world. We do it right in Tennessee.”
Director of PIE Brittany Cannon said Wacker has played an instrumental role in the PI Innovation Center, including a sizable donation of $1M made today during the grand opening.
