Police: Kidnapping suspect hit 3 vehicles fleeing from officers Sunday evening

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – An attempt to arrest a kidnapping suspect led to a chase Sunday evening in Chattanooga.

An officer spotted the vehicle of the suspect and tried to stop him around 5:35 but it ran.

The chase ended with a crash at the intersection of 23rd street and Holtzclaw Avenue.

The fleeing vehicle hit a patrol vehicle that was not actually  in the chase as it shot through the intersection.

Then it hit two other vehicles.

The police officer in the vehicle that was hit was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and later released.

All other victims were treated at the scene.

The fleeing driver was also checked out by EMS and then placed under arrest.

28 year old Chester Phelps was charged with a variety of outstanding warrants, with more charges to come from the chase:

POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA
DRIVING ON REVOKED, SUSPENDED OR CANCELLED LICENSE
THEFT OF PROPERTY
VANDALISM/MALICIOUS MISCHIEF
FAILURE TO APPEAR
