Police: Nix said he had no idea there was a child in the back

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga Police identify the suspect in the city’s second baby-napping in the last 48 hours.

36 year old Terry Nix was the suspect police officers pulled over Monday evening on 4th Avenue.

A mother ran into a Mapco on Lee Highway leaving her Chevy Equinox and five month old in the child safety seat.

When she came it the SUV and her son were gone.

Minutes after issuing a BOLO for the vehicle, a police officer spotted it in the 2300 block of 4th Avenue.

The officer pulled it over with Nix in the driver’s seat and the child still strapped in the back seat.

The infant was not harmed.

Nix faces charges of theft and especially aggravated kidnapping.

He told officers he had no idea there was a child in the vehicle until after he was on the road.
