Police Officer Killed in Crash


COLLEGE PARK, Ga. (AP) – Authorities say a police officer has been killed in a car crash involving a wrong way driver in south Fulton County.

Fulton County police spokeswoman Cpl. Kay Lester says DeKalb County officer Kevin Toatley’s patrol car hit head-on with an SUV going the wrong direction on a freeway around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Toatley, hired in 2007, was pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Lester says three adults and two juveniles were in the wrong-way vehicle. Lester says the female driver is in serious but stable condition, the female front passenger is in critical condition, a male rear passenger is in serious condition, and two juveniles have non-life threatening injuries.

Names of the passengers have not been released.

Lester says no charges have been filed yet and remains under investigation.
