Police report on suspect arrested for killing woman before Athens church fire
They believe he killed her while she was working at St. Mark AME Zion Church
ATHENS, Tennessee (WDEF) – We now know more about the man accused of killing a woman before a church fire in Athens.
Firefighters discovered the body of Linda Buchanan after the fire at St. Mark AME Zion Church eleven days ago.
But an autopsy revealed she had been killed before the fire.
Investigators found surveillance video of Kyle Hickox running from the church twice to Tennessee Wesleyan University before the fire.
In one incident a TWU employee told him to leave and he replied he would get “God’s water” and then fled.
The employee saw him return to the church.
The second time he left the church with his shirt wrapped around his hand.
Witnesses say he used a hose to spray himself off.
Investigators say they found shoes at his house with blood on them.
The blood was matched to Linda Buchanan.
Officials believe he killed her while she was working at the church.
Hickox has been charged with second degree murder, but not with the fire at this point.
