Prayers at St. Peters and Paul for Chattanooga Victims

Chattanooga (WDEF) – Many Chattanooga churches and hundreds of Chattanoogans spent Sunday praying for the families effected by last week’s tragic shooting in our community.

WDEF News 12’s Jamal Williams went to St. Peters and Paul Basilica has our story.

Hundreds gathered in the pews of St. Peter and Paul Basilica this morning. Bishop Richard Stika was on hand and said that while everyone is praying for the families of the victims you can not for get about the other family that has been affected as well.

"Don’t allow anger to destroy you if you allow anger to seep into our hearts revenge then we begin to be tainted with the same things we were angry with."

Many current and former military members were on hand for this morning service as they still seek to get a grasp around last weeks events.

"As the bishop and the congressman said, we must move on and we will we are a strong and vibrant country."

The words Chattanooga strong has been used as a rally cry across the nation to show support and prayers for the community.

"The United States is a great experiment over these 200 plus years of many cultures coming together and so often we work well together and every once in awhile something like this occurs and it just rips at the fabric of some people but Americans are strong."
