Predators are still accepting applications for bandwagon fans
The Preds Train is leaving the station tonight, so this is last call for any lingering bandwagon fans …
Here is a quick rundown of some of the key things you need to know before jumping on, and if you remember this info, who knows you might even be able to trick people into thinking you were a predators lifer …..
First: The Preds are only the third team in NHL history to be seeded in eighth place going into the playoffs to reach the Stanley Cup…. Nashville closed out the season with 94 points, tied with Calgary for the lowest total of any team to qualify for the playoffs also making them the first team to play for the cup as the No. 16 seed… So this has defenitly be an improbable run!
Second: If the Preds bring home the Stanley Cup, they will become Nashville’s most successful pro-sports team. Sorry Titans fans, but the Preds have already brought home the Western Conference Championship, essentially tying the 2000 AFC Championship the Titans have… So a win would become sweet music for the Music City and represent Nashville’s first major sports title.
Third.. Let’s actually look at the Stanley Cup Finals match up for a second. It puts the Penguins’ world-class offense against the Predators’ world-class defense…. Nashville has one of the NHL’s best blue lines led by top-four Roman Josi, P.K. Subban, Ryan Ellis, and Mattias Ekholm. The foursome have combined for 11 goals and 28 assists in 16 games. That’s two more points than eight Penguins defensemen have scored in three fewer games.
Now, to my 4th and final point, and this one may be the most important …. When the Preds win, things will get a little fishy … Fans celebrate big moments in games by throwing catfish onto the ice. The tradition started back in 2003 in a game between the Predators and the Detroit Redwings. … Now Redwings fans celebrate by throwing octopii onto the ice… So it is only right that Preds fans put a southern swing on things, pitching Catfish ….
And this is all you need to know to enjoy the Nashville Predators as they start their run at history tonight.
