Prescribed burns Wednesday at North Chickamauga WMA

FALLING WATER, Tennessee (WDEF) – Expect to see and smell a lot of smoke  in the Hixson, Middle Valley, and Soddy-Daisy areas this Wednesday.

TWRA warns that they will be setting several fires in the North Chickamauga Creek Wildlife Management Area then.

They use the prescribed burns to control dead, brushy areas from later wildfires.

The burns are monitored. And they won’t set them if the air temperature, humidity, ground moisture and windspeed aren’t right.

“Prescribed fire is useful in lessening invasive species and promoting native plants and wildlife on the landscape,” shared WMA Manager, Brian Letner.

“This form of management is safe, effective and less costly than other forms.”
