Press Conference Held for McMinn County Incident
ATHENS, Tenn. (WDEF) – A safety scare at McMinn County High School has parents and students on edge as officials are speaking out on how they’re working to keep students safe.
Last week, two students from McMinn County High School in Tennessee were suspended after making threats on social media.
“A parent was very concerned over a video recording he had discovered on the device belonging to his son,” McMinn Sheriff Joe Guy stated.
“The recording was made in November by his son and another student, dressed in masks and making statements that implied their planning of a school-shooting type attack, and naming certain students as possible targets.”
Today, a press conference was held to discuss the incident and safety measures moving forward.
While this incident occurred several months ago, it underscores the importance of vigilance and prompt response to potential threats in educational settings.
McMinn Sheriff Joe Guy told the public that “One suspect is in custody at the Bradley County Juvenile Detention Center, and the other will be transferred there upon completion of treatment at a mental health facility.”
Both suspects were charged with conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism and are under evaluation.
