CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The Third Saturday in October weekend wouldn’t be complete without a visit from a marching band here in Chattanooga.

Friday, the University of Tennessee’s Pride of the Southland Band marched into Finley Stadium where they performed a concert and for the first time here in Chattanooga, held an open rehearsal to showcase their traditional Circle Drill halftime show.

The director of the band, Dr. Mike Stewart, said, “We’ve got so many students from this area of the state and it’s a great opportunity for us to recruit, but also get to share some of our traditions and meet some folks from Chattanooga once again. This year is a little bit different, we’ve been doing this for years and years but instead of just doing a standstill concert, we combined with a rehearsal, so that way some of our fans could come out and see Circle Drill and see our performance.”

The band, now comprising a record 415 members, has had a huge year, performing in London in June and unveiling new uniforms and a new logo last week during the Texas A&M-Tennessee game.

They are on their way to Tuscaloosa where the Vols take on the Alabama Crimson Tide.

You can watch that showdown right here on News 12 Saturday at 3:30.
