Pride of the Southland Performs

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The University of Tennessee’s Pride of the Southland Marching Band made a stop in Chattanooga on Friday, October 17, for a free concert and open rehearsal at Finley Stadium.

The performance is part of the band’s long-standing tradition leading up to the annual Third Saturday in October, the historic Tennessee-Alabama football rivalry.

Gates opened at 11 a.m., and the band performed from noon to 2 p.m. on Davenport Field, giving fans the chance to experience both a concert and a live rehearsal.

The event drew UT supporters from across the region, with many getting a first-hand look at the band’s precision and signature formations, including the Circle Drill.

Now in its 156th year, the Pride of the Southland traces its roots back to 1869, when it began as a cadet band in UT’s military department.

It remains one of the oldest and most recognized collegiate bands in the country, performing at every home football game and traveling nationwide to represent the university.

The Pride now heads to Tuscaloosa to perform at the Tennessee-Alabama football game this weekend, continuing to keep the tradition alive.
