Privately Owned Hamilton County Jail

Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond plans to fight for his employees, if the jail is sold to a private company.
Plans are in the works to find the best financial solution to fix the old building.
One option is to sell the jail to the private company, the Corrections Corporation of America.
This would mean that the company would pay for repairs or rebuilding.
Sheriff Jim Hammond says he does not want this to affect the current jail employees.
"I also have a constitutional responsibility to my employees. I’m, I’m not willing to talk about anything that’s going to harm their present career goals."
Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger will ask the County Commission for funds to conduct a study to find the best solution.
The study could take up to a year to complete.
