Proposed Firing Range Under Fire From Residents

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The regional planning committee heard arguments for a proposed firing range today.

Dead zero wants to build a firing range near Retro Hughes road on Bakewell mountain.

Residents spoke out against the firing range during the meeting, while dead zero officials brought a group of experts to speak on their behalf.

“Just stop and ask your self would you want your own children, your own grandchildren growing up in a shelter where they are hearing constant gunfire worried about if it is going to strike them….. it is my opinion that this range is going see or meet any of the military ranges and law enforcement ranges that I have taught on or shot on in my 39-years there is always the possibility when we build roads we still have accidents on them.”

Dead zero was asking for a special permit application but the county denied their request.

The proposed range will be back up for discussion on January 11th in front of the county commission.
