Public appeals to find a missing man, but girlfriend “fears the worst”

FORT OGLETHORPE, Georgia (WDEF) – The girlfriend of a Fort Oglethorpe man who’s been missing since June 22th is fearing the worst.

And now family and friends are searching for him while Fort Oglethorpe Police work with McMinn County authorities to search for leads of his whereabouts.

44-year old David Dewayne Abbott was last seen at his Battlewood Apartment before taking off in the middle of the night on June 22th.

Police say Abbot suffers from schizophrenia and had stopped taking his medication before leaving his apartment.

24-hours after he was reported missing, his truck was located outside a McMinn County home by Sheriff Deputies.

Lt. Steve Blevins of the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department says “All his personal property is still at home. We still haven’t located his wallet or him; about the only two things that are still missing.”

Abbot’s Girlfriend, Regina Snyder adds “David has never done anything like this before. We’ve been together for 17 years; off and on. We have kids that we’ve raised together; a grandson that we’ve raised together.i just don’t think he would have….sorry”

The family is En-route back up to McMinn County to hand out flyers and go door to door to see if anyone has spotted Abbot.

Police say Abbot did not take his medication with him.
