Read 20 celebrates local librarians
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Hamilton County celebrated their librarians at the first ever Read 20 Librarian of the Year Award Luncheon.
The award ceremony honored Hamilton County School librarians, and the work they do for kids.
Principals were asked to write an essay on why their school’s librarian was the best.
Nolan School’s Laura Dowd won the first ever award.
“There’s a spark that happens when you read a book,” Read 20’s Shawn Kurrelmeier-Lee said. “And having that spark happen for children is magical. It is why the librarians do what they do.”
Mayor Wamp and Superintendent Justin Robertson spoke at the event.
Read 20’s mission is to promote the importance of children reading for at least 20 minutes a day.
With this award ceremony, they get to shine light on the people who make this happen.
