Red Bank Wrestling Team Enjoying Resurgence This Season

Red Bank, TN-(WDEF) The Red Bank wrestling team is enjoying quite a resurgence this year under head coach Shane Turner.
The Lions had not won a state title in twenty years, and now they might win two this year.
Red Bank has already claimed the state duals crown, and this weekend, they’ll try to claim the traditional state tournament
championship.
To win in the regular season, you must wrestle in the off-season. That was Shane Turner’s message when he took over as Red Bank’s head coach in 2013.
Said Turner-“When all these kids went to the region tournament and got put out as freshmen, it’s an easy sell right there. Do you never want to feel this again? There’s a way.”
Said Senior Trent Comeaux-“It’s crazy what he has done with this program.”
And now the Lions are crazy good after buying into Turner’s year-round program.
Said senior Devin Crawl-“Our freshman year, we lost to Walker Valley. They beat us 84-0. Then we came back our junior year, and we blew them out of the water. We were like well then, I guess we’ve got a good team now.”
Said Turner-“Well this year I think what let these guys know they could compete with anybody was the first time in a long time, we entered in the McCallie Invitational, which is traditionally one of the tougher tournaments. We finished ahead of some of the perennial powers.”
Earlier this month, Red Bank beat everybody to win the Class A/AA state duals championship.
Said Turner-“Red Bank has never won the state duals until this year. So that was a first for this school.”
Added Comeaux-“This is reality. We just won the state. It’s still hard to wrap around my head.”
This weekend, the Lions will try to add a state traditional title.
Said Crawl-“We have a pretty good chance of getting a good load of guys in the semifinals. And if we do that, we’ll basically have the tournament then.”
Said Comeaux-“I’ll go to the gym on a run just to bust off some pounds. I’ve never had so many people or so many strangers come up to me and say, what you guys are doing is awesome. You’re putting Red Bank wrestling back on the map.”
