Remembering the life of MLK

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF)- After a week of virtual events honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, the community gathers in person at Miller Park to remember the life of one of the one of the most important people in U.S. history.

“He was a prophet that foretold exactly what we’re living through these days. He brought to the forefront the disparities of what the people in the community are going through to make it better for those people to live with. We’re standing on the shoulders of what he did today,” said activist C-Grimy.

C-Grimey said the extremely cold temperatures today are just a minor sacrifice for them compared to what King and so many others endured.

“We can stand out in the cold and celebrate for an hour compared to marching down Selma, sit ins and the days in jail. So this is a small sacrifice to commemorate one who sacrificed his whole life,” said C-Grimey.

He wants people to remember King not only of this day but for all those times when someone stands for freedom.

“This is not just a day of commemoration this is a day to plead and continue to fight the things that MLK was fighting to protect and again and they’re still under attack,” said C-Grimey.

One supporter said he wanted to attend the event to show support for the injustice faced in our country.
