Replica Tomb Honors Fallen Heroes

FORT OGLETHORPE, GA. (WDEF) – Veterans and community members came together in Fort Oglethorpe today for a moving ceremony at the American Legion Battlefield Post 214.

The centerpiece of the event was the “A Call to Honor” traveling replica of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a half-scale model of the original monument in Arlington National Cemetery.

The replica allows people across the country to reflect on the sacrifice of service members who never made it home, making the powerful symbolism of the Tomb more accessible to local communities.

The project was created and is maintained by the Exchange Club of Rome, Georgia, and has been traveling to cities and towns across the region to bring its message of remembrance and respect.

For veterans and families in Fort Oglethorpe, today’s display served as both a history lesson and a heartfelt reminder of the cost of freedom.
