Rhea County woman charged with TennCare fraud by doctor shopping

NASHVILLE (WDEF) – A Spring City woman has been charged with doctor shopping for prescription drugs.

29 year old Bethany Dannel faces five counts of using TennCare to purchase the drugs.

Investigators say she went to multiple providers over a short period to get the prescriptions.

The drugs were the painkiller Oxycodone and the anti-depressant Xanax.

“Unauthorized use of TennCare to obtain prescription drugs is a serious crime we are pursuing every day across Tennessee, “Inspector General Manny Tyndall said. “The Office of Inspector General is committed to ensuring TennCare benefits are not abused in this manner so that we preserve the program for those who truly need the benefits.”
