Riceville man indicted on insurance fraud charges over fire

RICEVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – A man from McMinn County has been indicted on insurance fraud from a fire a year and a half ago.

The fire burned a structure on Highway 163 in Riceville in July of 2020.

McMinn County and TBI agents suspected it was intentionally set.

Their investigation found that the property owner still had items that he claimed were burned in the fire.

In February, the McMinn County Grand Jury indicted Hughie Hughes III with insurance fraud over $60,000.

Hughes was formally arrested on Monday.
