Ringgold Political event highlights Congressional and Lt. Governor Races
RINGGOLD, Ga. (WDEF) – A political event was held Saturday night in Ringgold, Georgia, where several Republican candidates hoping to replace Marjorie Taylor Greene addressed voters and shared their priorities for the future.
Hosted by the Catoosa County Republican Party, the event gave residents the opportunity to hear directly from a few candidates seeking the open congressional seat.
Colton Moore, a state senator representing Northwest Georgia, introduced Greg Dolezal, who is running for lieutenant governor.
Moore also spoke about what he believes needs to change in Washington.
“Too many of these congressmen have been in Congress way too long,” Moore said. “I am certainly a believer in term limits. People argue that congressmen are never going to vote for that. Let’s grandfather them in and let future people who are elected to Congress be under the purview of term limits.”
Moore also addressed the political impact of Greene’s resignation before the end of her term.
“It’s very sad that she’s resigning now and not finishing her term,” Moore said. “It’s left quite a mess politically, ultimately having three elections between now and May nineteenth with the special election.”
Dolezal spoke about leadership and Republican priorities heading into the next election cycle, emphasizing unity and opportunity.
“Regardless of what side of the aisle you’re on, you want to love this country, and you want to participate in the upside of the American dream,” Dolezal said. “The plans that we have are not just partisan. They are meant to restore the American dream for everyone.”
Among those running for Congress, Moore said his focus is on affordability and housing for both younger and older generations.
“Our generation and those younger than us have no chance at purchasing a house right now,” Moore said. “Elderly people in our community are being forced out of their homes because of additional taxes. We are at a breaking point, and I think repealing property taxes altogether in our state would be a great way to address that.”
Another congressional candidate, Star Black, said while she shares some goals with Moore, her professional background distinguishes her from the rest of the field.
“I’m the only candidate with federal experience,” Black said. “I have worked with federal agencies for the past twenty-eight years. I’ve been in the swamp, but I wasn’t part of the swamp because I had a lifeboat. After twenty-eight years with FEMA, I learned that if FEMA couldn’t fund it, I worked with other federal agencies to get the funding.”
The event allowed voters in Ringgold to hear a range of ideas from a couple candidates seeking to replace Greene and offered a glimpse into the direction they hope to take the district moving forward as the election approaches.
