WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — Dougherty Gap Road in Walker County reopened on Wednesday, according to Walker County officials.

However, they are asking drivers to still use caution in this area.

The road was closed for nearly a month while road repairs were made following a rockslide.

The rockslide happened back on Thanksgiving, and another one happened back in 2021.

There are still warning signs posted in both directions of this road.

They will also be securing existing boulders to help prevent future landslides.

Previously, Walker County received emergency funding to make repairs to this same road in 2022. That was following a late 2021 landslide that damaged the area as well.

With those repairs, crews also repaved Dougherty Gap Road.
