Rossville Council Votes to Ban Abortion

Rossville city council is creating a lot of buzz around town after voting unanimously Monday to outlaw abortion services.
The only exception would be if the mother’s life is at risk, but women that have been raped or involved in incest would not be allowed to get an abortion.
There currently are no abortion clinics in Rossville, but a University of Georgia Communications Law Professor Dr. William Lee tells us that banning them is unconstitutional.
"That’s contrary to Roe v. Wade which allows women to have the termination of a pregnancy regardless of whether their life is at risk," said Lee.
Mayor Teddy Harris has been quoted saying that he didn’t want the drama that could come along with protests on abortion clinics.  He didn’t want to comment on the ordinance today.
The ordinance also would ban any advertisement that endorses abortion services, and Dr. Lee says that is a clear violation of first amendment rights.
The city attorney is currently reviewing the ordinance before it goes up for a final reading that could happen December 8th.
