Rough Ridge fire in Cohutta Wilderness Update
BLUE RIDGE, Georgia (WDEF) – The wildfire in the Cohutta Wilderness burned another 600 acres on Monday, bringing the total to 1858 by Monday evening.
Crews have it hemmed in now along Rough Ridge in the middle of the Wilderness between Blue Ridge and Eton.
On the south end around Yellow Lead, a spot fire got outside the containment lines to burn 25 acres.
To the east, the fire is working down Rough Ridge to Conasauga Creek.
To the west and north, crews have containment lines at Jones Settlement and Jacks River.
A helicopter aided ground crews by making water drops.
Current closures associated with the Rough Ridge wildfire include:
• Forest Service Road 64 from Betty Gap trailhead to Three Forks trailhead
• Three Forks trailhead parking lot
• East Cowpen trail from Three Forks parking lot to the junction with Panther Creek trail, and
• Entire length of Rough Ridge trail from the junction with East Cowpen trail to Jacks River trail.
