Runners take on Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon chasing goals and milestones
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon took place this weekend, bringing runners from across the region together for a test of endurance, determination, and personal achievement.
Participants laced up their shoes with goals in mind, whether it was breaking personal records, reaching new milestones, or simply creating lasting memories.
Community members gathered once again for the annual event, which continues to grow each year.
Angel Rivera says his commitment to the marathon has never wavered.
“Eleven out of eleven. I’ve done every single one,” Rivera said proudly.
For some runners, the race marked a major personal milestone.
Samantha Foster completed her first full marathon and says the experience was unforgettable.
“I’m doing pretty awesome. 26.2 miles is the farthest I’ve ever run before, so I feel great,” Foster exclaimed.
Others took on the challenge alongside friends, turning the race into a shared goal.
Ben Gregson says he and his friends made a pact to run a marathon together before another big milestone.
“Me, my friend Hunter, and my friend Ross all wanted to run one. Two of us graduated, one got married in May, so we wanted to do it before another big milestone.”
Hunter Lawson says the experience pushed him beyond his limits.
“Up until now, I’ve only run three miles, so this is pretty cool.”
For many, the marathon represented a long-time dream.
Bianca Pereira says completing the race was something she had always envisioned.
“It’s always been such a big accomplishment I wanted to complete. To actually do it is amazing. It’s such a great feeling.”
The race also became a meaningful moment for those supported by loved ones.
Esther Cruzado says her family traveled a long distance to cheer her on.
“My friends and family, my sister and my mom, traveled 4,000 miles from California just to see me run. It shows me how loved and blessed I am.”
Some runners returned with specific goals in mind.
Drew Clem says he came into the race hoping to beat his previous time.
“I love running, and I was ready to do another one. This is my second race, and I wanted to hit a personal record and run it faster. I have a couple friends out here with me today. I hit a new PR as well today, so I feel pretty good.”
Organizers say the marathon is not just about competition, but about bringing people together and encouraging healthier lifestyles.
The event gave the community a chance to come together, stay active, and build a culture of wellness that continues to grow with each passing year.
